چکیده

In group discussion, it is not always easy for the participants to effectively control the discussion to make it fruitful. With the goal of contributing to facilitating group discussions, this study proposes a method of segmenting a discussion. Predicted discussion boundaries may be useful for tracking the discussion topics, analyzing the discussion structure, and determining a timing for intervention. We created a multimodal embedding space using an autoencoder, and represented each multimodal utterance data in the embedding space. Then, a simple unsupervised approach was used to detect the discussion boundary. In a preliminary analysis, we found that the proposed method can generate discussion segments that are comprehensible for analyzing a discourse structure. But, the performance in the discourse segmentation task should be improved as future work. Author

A Multimodal Discourse Analysis of Some Visual Images in the Political Rally Discourse of 2011 Electioneering Campaigns in Southwestern Nigeria

This paper presented a multimodal discourse analysis of some visual images in the political rally discourse of 2011 electioneering campaigns in Southwestern Nigeria. The data comprised purposively selected political visual artefacts from political rallies across the six Southwestern States in Nigeria (Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, and Lagos). The data were analyzed using Halliday’s (1985) syste...

Fuzzy particle swarm optimization with nearest-better neighborhood for multimodal optimization

In the last decades, many efforts have been made to solve multimodal optimization problems using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). To produce good results, these PSO algorithms need to specify some niching parameters to define the local neighborhood. In this paper, our motivation is to propose the novel neighborhood structures that remove undesirable niching parameters without sacrificing perf...

Multimodal Discourse: In Search of Units

Human communication is inherently multimodal. In this study we focus on three channels of spoken discourse: the verbal component, prosody, and gesticulation. We address the question of units that can be identified within these components and in spoken multimodal discourse as a whole. The basic unit of the verbal channel is the clause, reporting an event or a state. A set of prosodic criteria he...
